COMMENTARY: It’s highly significant that Pope Francis has established the ‘World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly’ to be celebrated every year on the fourth Sunday of July.
In his message ahead of the first World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, Pope Francis referred to his own advanced age, and quoted his predecessor, Pope emeritus Benedict XVI, whom he called “a saintly elderly person who continues to pray and work for the Church.”
Founder of an association dedicated to the vocation of families’ elderly says their role is encouraging the ‘story of the living faith.’
